We've all looked at an impending DIY project and wondered, "Can I? Should I?" but a new campaign for B&Q is here to tell you that, yes, you can... and you should.
The work was created by Uncommon London and directed by Elliot Power through Love Song, is part of a new B&Q partnership with UK channel ITV which was brokered by Dentsu Creative Entertainment, and the 80-second spot puts the DIY store's iconic ‘You Can Do It’ slogan, which has been around for nearly 40 years, at the heart of the campaign.
B&Q’s own Slice of Home Life report revealed that 80% of people want to make changes in their homes, but only 36% feel like they can actually do it, so B&Q want to silence customers' doubt and inspire action by encouraging people to take on the project, no matter how big or small the challenge.
The spot features various people as they struggle with their doubt and wonder whether they can achieve the desired results. Maybe they should get a friend to help, their mum, their accountant, a professional... But when one of our reluctant DIYers realises that her sledgehammer is louder than the voices of doubt in her head, she picks it up and smashes through the wall in front of her, ushering in some DIY decisiveness.
“We’re really proud of our continued partnership with one of the UK’s most loved DIY brands as we bring new life and meaning to their household tagline, You Can Do It," said Nils Leonard, Co-Founder at Uncommon. "We live in a world where we’re told we can’t more and more, every day — this campaign is all about reclaiming that message with power in a way only B&Q can.”
