Ancestry Canada is giving genealogy the Netflix treatment by dropping viewers into dramatic turning points in their family history and asking them to continue uncovering their ancestors' stories.
Anomaly Toronto's first work for the brand since winning the account is a three-spot effort designed to make viewers feel like they’re watching a historical drama – with stories including a family grappling with the decision to leave Ireland for Canada during the potato famine, a young man with a weak heart finding out if his doctor will allow him to sign up for WWI, and an interracial couple fleeing the US to get married in Canada during the 1860s.
Helmed by Daniel and Dorian through The Corner Store, each film ends on a cliffhanger, calling for Canadians to fill in the rest of the story through family history tools and AncestryDNA kits.
