This innovative short film, directed and animated by All In Pixel through BOL, explores the excitement and limitations of gaming in the 80’s, going through the typical video game issues of the era.

The film is based on the game-like nature of these limitations - often, actually managing to play it would become a game in itself. This, in turn, would lead to some out-of-the box thinking, providing home-made solutions for technical issues and proving that problem solving fosters creative thinking.

BOL used limitations as a means to increase creativity, choosing to design it entirely in PETSCII, with nothing but 8-Bit character sets used as graphic elements to illustrate and animate the story.

Originally a type of character encoding used on Commodore’s computers, PETSCII contains an extensive set of symbols and allows the use of colours. The film pays homage to the 80s video game aesthetic, with the lo-fi element adding a layer of subtle humour.
