Creative agency TBWA Chiat Day and the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention have collaborated to launch this affecting short film, directed by The Corner Shop’s Vincent Rene-Lortie, which highlights the importance of talking in suicide prevention.

Through dimly lit vignettes with seamless transitions, the campaign, titled Talk Away The Dark, portrays a daughter who becomes increasingly concerned with her father’s mental health.

The lamps turning off in their home are used as a metaphor for depression, as we see him change from being somewhat distracted, to giving up his passions, and isolating himself from others.

In a moving final scene, the daughter approaches her father to ask whether he has been considering suicide, and as she shares AFSP’s resources with him, the lights slowly come back on.
