This surreal short film, directed by Ádám Freund through CineSuper, tells the story of Ábel, a young boy who lives with his separated parents and sister in the countryside.
His mother works on the farm, whilst his eccentric father tinkers in his workshop from morning till night. One day, his father takes off in a DIY spaceship and miraculously disappears into the stratosphere. Unable to come to terms with his father's departure, Ábel begins to investigate.
After drinking a strange juice in his father’s shed, the protagonist is transported into a bizarre, psychedelic rock musical, where he communicates with his father as they hurtle through space.
Earthly People cleverly weaves unexpected elements of comedy and sci-fi into a sensitively told story that explores universal themes of broken families and belonging, inspired by the directors own childhood experience of his parent’s divorce.
