Take On Me is a banger. There's no arguing. The 1984 a-ha hit's synth riff and ear-drum bursting chorus (if sung correctly in a drunk-enough state) is permanently embossed in the minds of every 80s kid.
Sure, The Sun Always Shines on TV and Bond theme The Living Daylights are all well and good, but if you ask anyone to name a track by the Norwegian trio, you'll soon be hearing an ever-ascending request to "take them on".
Likewise, if you as most people to visualise a VW, they're probably going to think of the brand's iconic camper van, so it's a neat fit that to celebrate the first all-electric version of the vehicular classic, agency Grabarz & Partner have tapped up Morten Harket and pals to tell their story.
Ostensibly an excuse to create a mini-doc on the band's history, Partners In Reinvention is elevated by director Toby Dye's ear for a good yarn, filling the piece with fun recollections and lovely old photos. The only criticism we'd have is that maybe we see a bit to much of the van itself, but, in the misquoted words of the band, "it's better to be safe than sorry".
