According to a report from the California-based nonprofit Center for Judicial Excellence, In the US, on average, one child per week is killed during custody battles.
In partnership with Silverside AI, a Pereira O'Dell + Serviceplan company, Pierce’s Pledge launches Lawyer That Cares; a PSA aiming to keep children safe from gun violence during divorce and custody proceedings.
The animated film narrates a bitter parental row through a child’s eyes that appears to be heading towards a horrific outcome.
A growing number of family lawyers are participating in the drive to require clients to declare their weapons and to store them in a secure off-site location during proceedings.
The film’s release date today is tragically pertinent –on the evening of January 13, 2021, Pierce’s Pledge founder Lesley Hu experienced a parent’s worst nightmare. In the midst of bitter custodial dispute, her ex-husband and father of their nine-year-old son Pierce, killed the boy while he slept and then took his own life.
The film was entirely animated using AI tools like Luma and Runway, combined with traditional animation and even some hand-drawn elements. Voiceover was recorded by an adult and rendered with an AI filter to sound like a child, to avoid having an actual child read out a difficult script.
