Director Paul Santana’s new short film, A Climate of Change, is a call to climate action, forecasting a not too distant future when our atmosphere becomes hazardous to our health.
The film features a mother and her son sheltering from a climate warning, unable to safely breathe the air outside, in what is a world ravaged by humans' inability to reverse the effects of climate change.
“I wanted to show this eventual reality as a new normal, where cities are somewhat empty, and where venturing outside can pose a risk," said Santana. "The mom in the story knows of a different time, but her son has grown up this way. This way of living is all he knows.
“I’m passionate about the subject of climate change because I’m terrified for the future that awaits my kids, and their eventual kids," the Supply & Demand director continues. "There are so many articles and so much science on this issue of where the health of our planet is heading, but I wanted to create something visual and personal, something that will make people consider what this lived reality might look like. This is a visceral and frightening preview of what the world might be like if we don’t make major systemic changes.”
