What could be more Christmassy than an oversized red-and-white striped stocking puppet that belches presents - not just on the 25th December, but the whole year round?

That's the premise behind this year's weird and wonderful Xmas campaign from TK Maxx, once again created by Wieden+Kennedy London, which sees a lucky woman discover the retailer's Neverending Stocking in store, thereby setting herself and her family up for a year's supply of free gifts.

The stocking, which is reminiscent of a giant cuddly tapeworm, slithers around dispensing headphones, mini-motorbikes and sunglasses from its fleece-lined maw in a jolly but rather unsettling manner, before the clock strikes twelve the following Christmas Day and off it shoots up the chimney like a reverse, serpentine Santa Claus.

Directed by Nick Ball through Blink, the ad is an odd but entertaining take on Christmas, with Bill Nighy lending his dulcet tones to the voiceover and a distinctly unfestive choice of soundtrack, Jose Norman’s rumba classic Cuban Pete, adding to the offbeat appeal.

A limited number of bespoke neverending stockings will be hidden on the shelves of TK Maxx stores across Europe and online from November 7, and lucky shoppers who find one will experience the year of gifting.
