Tesco Ireland and Dublin agency Rothco launch innovative campaign enabling people to show gratitude to their holiday hosts

Supermarket brands often like to tap into the heady festival of feelings sloshing around with the rum punch, eggnog, family rows and office party snogs that accompany the Yuletide season, and you’ll have to have a heart as hard as last year’s chocolate Brazil nuts not to well up at Tesco’s Christmas campaign, Here's to the Hosts, launching today. The aim is to give a platform for grateful guests to express their appreciation to the unsung heroes tasked with planning the family get togethers and parties.

Created by Dublin independent shop Rothco and directed by award-winning documentarian, Ken Wardrop, through production company Antidote, the TV ads will feature people from all over Ireland thanking their hosts by letter. A total of 35 ads will be shot, each one featuring a different individual reading out the letter they’ve written to their host. Some are funny, all are as mushy as an over-boiled Brussels spout, but they're all highly entertaining and brilliantly executed.

The campaign begins with a launch edit, then two to three new letters will be released on TV each week and there will be additional activations, including outdoor projections and an interactive digital billboard in Dublin city centre. Call outs on social media will invite the public to take part and hosts will even get a special mention as they’re doing their Christmas shopping, with select Tesco stores handing over their loudspeakers for guests to spontaneously thank their hosts.
