Cannes Essentials: Carolina Coppoli
Freaking out about what to pack for next week? Geometry's head of business intelligence takes Argentina to Cannes.
Cannes is fast-approaching and while for some, this fact that will induce a fit of sheer panic, for the rest, it will bring back a familiar sense of heading to the South of France and spending a week mingling with the likes of adland's finest. But what to pack?
With only a week to go until many of us head off, we decided to speak with some industry insiders to find out what their most essential Cannes items will be. Geometry Latina's head of business intelligence and strategy, Carolina Coppoli, who is judging this year's Creative Data category gives shots a sneak peek at what she's packing in her suitcase:
Books: I always pack a couple of books for all my trips. I prefer paperback because I write all my thoughts inside while I'm reading. Usually I read about business or innovation because I am curious about new discoveries and ways of thinking. But I'm also interested in mythology and philosophy; they train my soul. For my Cannes, I'm packing Los mitos. Su impacto en el mundo actual by Joseph Campbell (which literally translates as The Impact of Myths in Today's World) and How Brands Grow: What Marketers Don't Know by Byron Sharp.
Sunglasses: My favourite pair of sunglasses is a must for me when travelling.
Headphones/Music: Festivals can be exhausting. When it becomes hard to find my way out of the downward spiral caused by overwhelming stress and anxiety, I turn to music. I have a special CD I bought from a street performer in Berlin which is just beautiful listening.
Cellphone/ iPhone: I cannot imagine travelling without my iPhone.
Notebook/Pencil: I usually carry around a pocket notebook for writing down pieces that sound good, I write ideas down as a reminder for future work.
Mac/Computer: I have my Mac in my left hand and my mobile in the right!
Red “Mate” & Termo: The “Mate” is a traditional infused drink in Argentina. It looks like a cup and is prepared by soaking dried leaves of yerba mate in hot water. I carry it around with me. It has a strong cultural significance both in terms of national identity and socialising with friends. Mate makes me feel like I’m carrying a piece of home around with me.
Pens: Color-coded notes make me a more efficient thinker. The color stimulates my creativity and helps me visually when working.
Sofía Painting: My ten year old daughter, Sofia, is a little painter and she has made a beautiful painting for me to travel with.
