This touching documentary, Where Joy Lives, from Publicis Singapore explores what it means to serve others, even when you feel like you have had everything taken away from you.
A young man is standing before an audience, relating what happened after he lost his son. As he does, he speaks about his past; abandoned as a child, bounced around the system, and finally moving past his upbringing...at least until his own child passed. Now his upbringing inspires him every day, and he’s started his own creche in South Africa to educate, raise, and give children the love they need to thrive. It’s soft and kind, and Where Joy Lives goes to great lengths to treat children with kindness and vulnerability.
The film is an emotional story, shot with care, celebrating the ways that children grow when they have room to explore who they are. The lighting shifts in a way that is thematic and understandable, and the voice-over is mellow, soft, and comforting. Where Joy Lives gives us a happy ending at a time when happy endings are needed, and community care is valued above all.
