In March 2022, Russian military forces bombed the G12 Art School in the besieged city of Mariupol. In this impactful short documentary, three of its students explain their decision to stay, study, and create, set amid the chaos of air-raid sirens and power outages.
Creating in Conflict, directed by Matthew Barton through Banyak Films and commissioned by ELIA (the European League of Institutes of the Arts), was created as part of the UAx Platform project on the opening of an exhibition by Polish artist Magdelana Abakanowicz at Tate Modern.
The release of the film signals the beginning of the UAx Platform, a scheme which will support war-affected Ukrainian Higher Education Institutes and their students.
