Without specifically naming which parties might represent the ‘haters’ – one can hazard a guess – this film calling for the young to vote in this week's election is a general rallying cry against the hateful old farts who’ve been running things for decades.
Created by Truant agency and directed by Harry Deadman through CANADA, the film #CancelTheHaters features musicians and TV celebs – including former Love Island star Dr Alex George, Roll Deep crew member Saskilla, Fickle Friends’ Natassja Shiner, solo artist Ayanna, and electronica pop artist AVA – all bemoaning how the young are labelled ignorant, idle, snowflake Insta-junkies.
In no uncertain terms they counter such stereotypes, while promising to generally undo the beastly legacy of the reactionary old guard: “We’ll block your backward views with our forward ones. We will fix the planet you destroyed.”
Even though voter registration has increased by 38 per cent since the last election in 2017, not all newly registered voters make it to the ballot box on election day.
