tinygiant signs photographer and director Aleksandra Kingo
Kingo’s humorous films and images tell surreal stories realized through bold colors and sharp wit.
Brooklyn-based production company tinygiant announce that photographer and director Aleksandra Kingo has joined its now-majority female director roster.
This marks Kingo’s first US representation. Kingo’s humorous films and images tell surreal stories realized through bold colors and sharp wit. Walking a fine line between unease and attraction, she plays with viewers’ sense of actuality, creating illusory worlds where lipstick stains are a blessing and champagne baths are perfectly casual. Self-deprecatingly honest, her relatable films blend the dark comedy of her native country, infused with her adopted home’s sarcasm. Inspired by everyday life and the wonders of the internet, Kingo creates from a place that celebrates the good, the bad, and the ugly.
Born in small-town Lithuania, she began her creative journey as a means of escaping her less than lively suburban teen existence. Finding joy in fantasy and daydreams, and further fed by the world wide web, Kingo morphed into a quirky young woman running around forests with a camera, hitch-hiking, and sleeping under the stars. Her travels finally landed her in London, where she fell in love with the art scene, the people, and the sheer proximity of amazing opportunities.
She attended the University of Arts London, where she studied photography, styling, and art direction, and collaborated on wild projects across a variety of mediums. A portrait session with French electro-pop band Yelle led to Kingo directing their next music video, unlocking a new level of creative expression for the young artist. From that point, there was no turning back.
She has since worked with a variety of brands around the world, helming ads for clients including Virgin Atlantic, Honda, Nespresso, John Lewis, Haagen-Dazs, Debenhams, Kenzo, and top agencies such as AMV, adam&eveDDB, McCann, Walsh, and Wieden + Kennedy. Her upcoming work includes a full visual Sunwink campaign with Walsh. Kingo has also been a nominee for the prestigious Taylor Wessing Portrait Prize for her photography.
Veronica Diaferia, Founder and EP at tinygiant, says, “With Aleks, it was love at first sight. Initially, we were captured by her work, which is humorous, very contemporary, and visually bold. Then it was her persona: she looks as if she came out of one of her stills and she is so smart and fun to be around. Her signing marks a great start of the year for tinygiant and with her, we have achieved a female majority on our roster, which has always been a goal for the company since its inception.”
“The best thing I’ve learned over the years has been to put the idea first,” says Kingo. “No matter how big or small the project, the concept is key. I go big, even if it may need toning down later. This is something that I have carried throughout my whole career and this is why I’m super excited to work with tinygiant, who is known even in London for making beautiful and meaningful things happen, at any scale and budget. I know they will be instrumental in helping me reach my creative goals and branching out to the US market."
