Directed by Harv Frost through Kode Media, this characteristically moody promo for English rock band The Last Dinner Party’s latest track The Feminine Urge portrays a dark yet timeless message about the expectations of young women to be pretty, quiet, delicate.
From smashing plates and dancing on broken porcelain to grotesquely peeling off perfectly made-up skin, the gorgeously melancholy music video sees band member featuring in individual vignettes, each reflecting their own style as they liberate themselves from feminine stereotypes.
The visuals are brought to life by whimsical period costumes and set design, perfectly capturing the band’s unique, camp baroque style and whimsical, passionate storytelling with strong feminist themes.
