Giving us an Afrofuturism that continually references the past, Culture Will Never Die is a fantastic vision of connection and creation.
As a heartbeat dominates the sonic background, a man speaking isiZulu narrates the film. A traditional healer, a Sangoma, appears and speaks to the Zulu people all over the world and through time. As we see different pieces of lives, moments, and movements, we pass through the heart of each person, a clear representation of the ties that bind a culture together. Authentic, surreal, connected with both the past and the present, and visually expansive, the film ends in the future, as a young woman watches the night sky, lit up with stars.
Directed by Fausto Becatti of Bioscope, the piece utilizes the heart as a portal forward, creating a fully interconnected world. With Xolisa Dyshana helming the project as Chief Creative Officer for ad agency Joe Public, the piece is imbued with passion and a deeply personal feeling of urgency.
