Sprite’s new campaign, featuring NBA stars Trae Young and Anthony Edwards, is quick-fire, splendidly surreal and makes artful use of comic timing.
Directed by Tony Yacenda through SMUGGLER to promote Sprite’s bottle rebrand – the new design is clear plastic to enable more efficient recycling – Same Sprite, New Bottle showcases Yacenda’s ability to coax authentic performances from non-actors, playing to Young and Edwards’ natural charisma.
There’s even a tribute to the old 2010 Drake ‘The Spark’ Sprite commercial as Edwards’ face disassembles after a mouthful of fizz. With its eye-popping visual effects, snappy pace and a perfectly cast duo, the spot is effortlessly fun and, after over 60 years of Sprite’s green bottle, undoubtedly does justice to the new design.
