Independent creative agency Sibling Rivalry - known for their work partnering with brands like Nike, HPE, and Lexus - developed the animation and design system for the event open and interstitials for the Association of Music Producers 2021 Awards show

Executive Creative Director Lauren Hartsone tasked Design Director and artist Frances Yeoland to design a piece inspired by her personal art practice. The animation takes its form from the Connectivity Series in particular; a body of work that explores the structures of organization and flow.

“The Connectivity series is about pushing the limits of a form,” says Yeoland. “As a designer, my thinking is systems-focused, and I love to play with replicating forms and developing a visual language in both my art and design practice. These works have been paintings, drawings, packaging, rugs and now animation. AMP was an amazing opportunity to play in the space between art and design.”

Constructed in layers from an initial drawing where a single line connects each form, the patterns that emerge become a system that defies the limits of its original format, expanding to many applications such as a rug (and potentially more). The scalability of this single artwork becomes apparent.

Traditionally working with gouache and pencil on paper, Frances’ artworks were brought to life by the Sibling Rivalry animation team led by Leo Franchi. Using color, form, movement, and sound to create an experience of sensory immersion, the result delivers an expression of relief and joy post 2020.

Sibling also worked closely with Yessian, the global full service sound company, to marry movement to music and animate the piece to an original composition.
