In the time-honoured tradition of 'music videos to give you nightmares' (see Come To Daddy and Oingo Boingo's Insanity for duvet-clutching example), Sad Night Dynamite's Wake Up, Pass Out is more body-horror than body-popper... and all the better for it.
Taking the track's themes of overconsumption and a lack of self-control, BLINKINK's Balázs Simon creates an outrageous tale following a monstrous mutation of performers Josh Greacen and Archie Blagden; utilising detailed prosthetics, CGI , and photoscanned streets to bring the horror to life.
Co-directed by Cátia Abreu, who, as Simon comments, "quite literally took over directing while I got busy getting lost in the morass of VFX techniques", the film's impressive mixture of techniques, alongside its pitch-black humour, makes for an entertaining if chilling ride.
"I couldn’t be more thankful for the phenomenal folks involved," explains Simon. "We had an incredible team of producers and designers at Blinkink, a superb live-action crew, and my producer Rowan, whose commitment to doing handstands in dubiously cleaned nightclub bathrooms was particularly admirable.
"There were so many puzzle pieces to fit together: CGI magic by massively talented Hungarian friends, sound design by Aaron Bentley, and a masterful grade by Alex Gregory."
