Plotworks expands its director roster and welcomes five new profiles: Documentary film director Maya Albana, Nordic Wave winner Karim Fakih, Peter Salling, as well as Shooting Directors Peter Riis and Nicklas Hemming.

With these additions, Plotworks strengthens its focus on directors for whom visual storytelling and authenticity are core elements.

Fakih is new to the Danish market but has already made a strong mark in Sweden, where he has worked with brands such as IKEA, H&M, and Cartier. He has just won the Stockholm International Film Festival’s Nordic Wave and the Nikon Short Film Award, along with a prize of SEK 400,000 for the film Dija, created in just one week.

“Karim has a distinctive eye for visual storytelling and a rare authenticity in his films. They are cinematically dreamlike, yet deeply personal and intimate,” says Tim Resdal, Executive Producer at Plotworks, and continues: “It’s almost as if he brings a part of himself into his films. There’s a certain energy. His film for the Swedish Peace Society truly shows how he can create an extremely intimate narrative in a fresh way. A very moving film!”

Plotworks also adds the acclaimed documentary director Albana to its roster. She is currently featured with her series Natasja – For Altid (Natasja – Forever) on TV2, among others. Holding a degree in documentary directing from the National Film School of Denmark, she confidently combines cinematic scenes with documentary storytelling and precise camera work, creating a distinct artistic voice and strong authenticity.

Albana has also directed a wide range of critically acclaimed films and series Annisette – Rebel for Life, The Art of Being Josephine Skriver, The Other Prince, among others.

“She has a unique ability to truly get under your skin - both through the people she portrays in her films and with the audience. Whether it’s Karen Mukupa or Prince Joachim, she very deliberately creates a safe space, using tactical cinematic tools to give momentum to emotions and narratives. Her energy and drive are clearly contagious, qualities she also brings into commercial formats,” says Resdal.

Plotworks already represents acclaimed directors such as Anders Morgenthaler, Christian Bagger, Andrea Eckerbom, and ‘Mr. Deadpan’ Olli Rönkä, but now also introduces a new layer of Shooting Directors. Here, the visual approach is the driving force, but fundamentally it speaks to a way of storytelling in which both Riis and Hemming bring strong narrative capabilities into their work.

“We see a market trend demanding greater authenticity. This can be achieved in many ways, but fundamentally storytelling still depends on people. Our Shooting Directors, as well as Maya Albana, Karim Fakih, and Peter Salling, all share the ability to tell stories from people to people. We feel that our roster now offers a very strong palette, where everyone contributes something unique,” says Resdal, continuing:

“Nicklas Hemming began as a still photographer and over the years worked as a director with increasingly large crews around him but has consciously found his way back to the camera as his primary storytelling instrument. His work is characterised by a warm, human, and organic style with a strong sense of presence. Peter Riis is internationally recognised as a DOP on some of the world’s largest commercial productions as well as the feature film Darkland. As a Shooting Director, he draws on more than 25 years of experience on film sets, where his eye for light, movement, and aesthetics elevates storytelling with dedication and uncompromising precision.”

The fifth addition is Salling, a film director educated at 18 Frames. He possesses a strong sense of storytelling, cinematic tools, and art direction. His graduation film Cool Boy, about 13-year-old Felix experiencing alcoholism and neglect at home, was selected for OFF25, Tirana International Film Festival 2025, and Nordische Filmtage in Lübeck. The film received five stars in Ekko and was also praised in Soundvenue as “heartbreaking” and “outstanding.”

“Peter Salling has already distinguished himself very early in his career as a director, and his film for the Danish Safety Technology Authority shows both his eye for strong storytelling and his ability to use art direction to elevate the narrative. He has just directed PPG’s new campaign film. Here, Peter demonstrated a level of overview we rarely see so early in a career. We are truly excited to represent him,” concludes Resdal.
