When Covid kept professional cellist Saul Richmond-Rakerd from orchestra performances and concerts, he turned his neighbors into his audience.
When director Michael Reiner came across one of Saul’s Stoop Symphonies, he knew that he had found something special. As his weekly porch performances garnered larger and larger audiences, it was clear that Saul had also found tapped into something that people were desperate for. There’s something about live music that’s irreplaceable, after all.
Music, connection, neighborhood; all these things were in short supply this summer. This compact documentary is heartwarming and hopeful, sharing the joy found on a stoop in the Lower Haight.
