Up-and-coming director Jackie Abraham, a former agency creative now repped by Canada's Steam Films, has created a charming film promoting the restaurant he lives above.
The documentary-style film profiles the husband-and-wife founders of Pho Tien, which has been serving Canadians hungry for pho – the glorious bowls of noodly soupy deliciousness – for almost 30 years.
Along with tasty images of Vietnamese cooking, the film also deftly portrays a happy, working marriage through subtle visual storytelling – the side-by-side cosy companionship, a husband’s gentle entreaty for his wife’s attention, the repetition of each other’s words, and most amusingly, a little slap on the head from a loving wife.
