Fresh off his first-ever Grammy win, Nas has released a new music video, featuring stylish and surreal elements.
There are moments of memory embedded in this music video, like things half-remembered. There are repeating motions, dreamlike imagery, and patterns within the piece, making the entire film look like a 50s noir. There are moments of color, but they are sparse and draw attention back to the choices made earlier in the film.
Director Savannah Setten and production studio project3 helped create Rare. With photographic inserts and a blurry vision, the film acts as a strange memory bank, with only parts of the world coming together to create a whole.
