Shot in stark b/w and with an automotive designer at its core, you might expect, from its opening seconds, that The Call will be a cerebral and, let's face it, slightly boring exploration of an innovator.
Instead, Dutch director Johan Kramer and agency Innocean Berlin have crafted a playful, sweet-natured and joyously innovative film covering the life and inspirations of Peter Schreyer, worldwide Chief Design Officer of the Hyundai Motor Group and cited as one of the most influential designers of our time.
Embracing the subject's love of Dada, the short jumps from theme to theme with a cohesive thread maintained through some smart storytelling and animation.
“It was very special to meet such a legendary designer," says Kramer on Schreyer. "Peter’s legacy and love for the art form Dada gave me lots of inspiration to create this visual adventure. I thought it was important to tell not only the success story, but show also the man and his humanity as well.
"To create the special and varied look, I worked closely together with young editor/animator Camille Boumans and graphic design duo FromForm, we somehow formed a dadaist movement creating this piece of communication and that was what made this project very special”.
