As a former choreography graduate, movement has always played an important role in Partizan director Rianne White’s work.
Her new promo Apple Tree for Norwegian singer Aurora is no different. Shot on an uncharacteristically overcast day in July, the film sees Aurora and her accompanying dancers move aggressively across a barren landscape. Stylistically constructed around isolating moments of choreography throughout the visual, the momentum of physicality contrasts and divides the surrounding environment in an expression of unity and unstoppable force.
The gloomy sky adds to the severity of Aurora’s environment, and contrasts the pastel coloured outfits of her and her surrounding bodies.
The bloody aftermath is a result of the non-stop movement and the toll it takes on their bodies; but they keep on dancing.
The promo is centred on female empowerment, and women's strength to keep going in the most adverse situations.
It was shot by DOP Olan Collardy, and choreographed by Olivia Lockwood.
