Created as a companion piece to his previous short, Running Through Life, in which he tells the story of his mother and her love of horses, Our Wayne is director Craig Bingham's new short that focusses on his relationship with his brother.
The pair have had a difficult relationship, says Bingham, in which they have rarely seen eye-to-eye, but that friction has equally rarely been mentioned, leading to the two brothers drifting apart.
Our Wayne is a touching look at that relationship, and the film puts Wayne at the centre of it. We hear from him about his background, his previous mentality, his relationship to religion, and his desire for change. Wayne is a man aware of his strengths and weaknesses and, in this film, confronts the reasons for his and his brother's lack of closeness, being open and honest throughout.
"This film came after my brother and I had a rough falling out, to the point where I didn't think we would speak again," says Bingham. "Shortly after, I was back home on the farm and found myself helping him on a roofing job in North Yorkshire. The drive to the building site took two hours there and back each day for a week, and it was in these silences that I began to really question what had gone on between us growing up. This was a very personal project to me, and for that reason I decided to shoot this solo with no crew. For me, it was a way to re-connect."
