Produced by Agile Films and sensitively directed by Lucy Bridger, Midpoint tells the story of Joan Day – played by actor Niamh Cusack – a middle-aged Country star who tries to reconnect with her estranged daughter when a gig brings her to town.
When the pair meet, Joan tries to come to terms with her choice to choose the romantic life of a nomadic musician over motherhood.
Cusack (Heartbeat, In Love with Alma Cogan), gives a subtle, nuanced performance as a complicated woman grappling with her own maternal instincts as she attempts to get involved in her daughter’s life as a new mum.
The film is a tender and refreshing exploration of parenting instincts, subverting the normal narrative of a stay-home mum.
Midpoint is the title track of Tom Chaplin’s third solo album, which is due to be released 2 September.
