Hypnotic and abstract, new—land’s Jonas Bang creates a dark and dreamy universe, setting the scene for Trentemøller’s upcoming album in September.

Brought to life with a wide variety of unconventional film techniques, the film is textured with a hazy quality which perfectly echoes the dream-pop world of the Copenhagen artist.

Bang’s poetic touch can be traced through every moment in the film. “We decided to create a handful of tableau scenes which, in an abstract manner, should feel like being touched by old cloudy memories of contradictory feelings like longing/belonging and attachment/detachment,” Bang says.

Each tableau is framed and refined; from dancers’ bodies tied together with rope, to the delicate beauty of the amaryllis; lips breathing through water, juxtaposed with symbols of Garden of Eden, the film has a mesmeric allure.

To achieve the hazy effect of the film, the team experimented with a wide variety of filming techniques. “On set, we shot through an old picture tube TV connected to a camera, tapes and 16mm film,” Bang says.

Jason Idris Alami our DoP came up with the great idea of wiping off the lenses with his fingers to enhance the dreamy look. So it’s actually Jason’s greasy fingers causing all the amazing light bleed outs on the performer’s faces and highlights, which is visible in most of the scenes.”
