Working at the crossroads of editing, art direction and VFX, Church Edit’s Mykyta Bereg has built a style geared towards immersive, surreal visuals.

With credits spanning artists and brands including Madonna, Doja Cat, Chris Brown, Lisa, Puma, Nike, Porsche and Yamaha, his work has also picked up recognition across awards and showcases such as Clio Music, The Webby Awards and Young Guns.

Here, Bereg shares the personal staples, from coffee to cameras, that sit alongside his day-to-day creative process.

The Motorcycle

A lot in my life is connected to this type of vehicle.

I’ve had several of them, and the latest one is a Ducati.

For me, it’s a way to be in the moment, free from thoughts, distance, and parking, haha.

It helps me creatively as well, because it’s a great break between editing sessions.

The Massive Attack Vinyl

I love this band, and whenever I need to think about a project or create the right mood, I put on their album Mezzanine.

And it’s truly a rare piece in my vinyl collection - an original 1998 pressing released together with the album.

The Camera

Many people in this category mention this item as their favourite, and I won’t be original here.

But it truly is always with me.

I try to periodically remind myself where my path in the industry started - with photography.

Later it evolved into editing.

And throughout almost my entire creative journey, I’ve always had a camera by my side.

The Painting

This is one painting divided into two parts, created by my friend, the Ukrainian artist Vladislav Popereka.

He gave one to me and one to my close friend, cinematographer Denis Rayneeed, at the same time in 2020.

They hung separately in our homes, and two years later, they were reunited in our first editing studio in Kyiv.

We did the renovation, equipment setup, and everything else ourselves at night between our daytime jobs simply because we wanted to create.

It was a fun time.

Now the paintings are scattered around the world again - one is in Barcelona with me, the other is in Riga - hoping that one day they’ll be reunited again.

The Coffee Maker

I always carry a coffee maker with me, wherever I am.

At home, I have a Moccamaster, and when I travel, I always take an AeroPress, a manual coffee grinder, and a small scale.

Coffee accompanies every possible creative process in my life.

The Gaming Computer

A separate computer from my work one, exclusively for gaming (based on Windows OS, of course!).

Games themselves were, for a long time, an essential part of my life and perhaps even led me to the industry I work in now.

I spend time with directors, post-production teams, my editing assistants, and other people from the film industry, for example, in the recently released Battlefield 6 or Counter-Strike.
