New York City-based creative editing and post-production studio Modern Post has expanded to the West Coast with a new office in Los Angeles.

The new studio launches with Editor Graham Patterson and Executive Producer Andrew Illson, who both joined from the NYC headquarters. The new Santa Monica space will unite the established elevated sensibility of the Modern Post brand with the thriving West Coast creative content production market, with a continued eye towards cultivating fresh talent from within.

The new West Coast office also includes the signing of editor Sofia Kerpan, her first exclusive representation, who earned an MTV VMA nomination for “Best Editing” for her work on Lizzo’s Good as Hell music video. Modern Post Managing Partner/Executive Producer Charlyn Derrick will oversee the operations and growth of both the New York and Los Angeles studios. On the heels of consistent growth of talent and footprint within its East Coast presence, this serves as the first geographical expansion of the company since it was launched in 2014.

Notes Derrick, “Los Angeles has always been a market that we’ve had our eye on, but we wanted to make sure that we were able to authentically bring the Modern Post brand to the West Coast with a homegrown team. Being able to launch with a team that really understands the Modern Post brand is exciting!”

Adds Patterson, “This expansion will allow us to nurture our existing West Coast relationships with in-person collaboration, while developing new relationships and evolving our creative scope within this market. Modern Post has built a culture founded on collaboration and creative excellence and we are excited to use that as our North Star as we evolve our Los Angeles presence.”

With a passion for collaboration and a penchant for creative exploration, Sofia Kerpan combines an element of whimsy and hyperrealism with authentic humanity across her body of work. Her distinct ability to hone in the unique creative style on each project is evident in her work on spots for brands such as Nike, Google, Fender, and Square, as well as music videos for top artists including Charli XCX, Gunna, Princess Nokia, Kehlani and Lil Yachty.

As a multidisciplinary filmmaker, Patterson artfully weaves together key story beats to craft dynamic narratives that take audiences on a journey, regardless of length. Notable work includes the arresting music video Sugar for Sufjan Stevens, which earned him an AICP Award for “Best Music Video” as well as a Ciclope Award, Webby Nomination and inclusion among IndieWire’s “The Best Music Videos of 2020” lineup. His astute eye for detail can also be seen in his work for clients such as Dior, Vogue and Zegna and in spots and music videos featuring celebrity talent including Dua Lipa, Justin Bieber, Avril Lavigne and Travis Barker.
