This short documentary explores how Líbero, the alternative football periodical, commissioned artist Andrei Molodkin to create a work of art denouncing the choice of Qatar as the host of the 2022 World Cup, after FBI investigations found the Gulf country had bribed FIFA executives.
Narrated by Molodkin himself, the film presents behind the scenes footage of the artwork's production. Titled The Dirtiest Cup, the installation is an exact reproduction of the World Cup trophy designed in 1971 by Italian sculptor Silvio Gazzaniga, but made with Qatari oil instead of gold.
The film features footage of newspaper headlines, which present details of the scandal and the FBI’s investigations which estimated that the bribe payment was 150 millions dollars, the symbolic price that Molodkin has put on his work, and the starting price when it goes for auction.
