Created pro bono by R/GA, this compelling, well-crafted film Fight for Freedom, is part of the Ad Council’s Love Has No Labels campaign to promote diversity and address bias.
Following symbolic images of the American idyll, from flags to fireworks, it outlines such liberties that many in the US take for granted – driving across state lines, jogging in the neighbourhood, birdwatching, wearing a hoodie or even just sleeping safely in one’s bed – all activities that have led to violence – sometimes fatal – against innocent Black people.
Can we celebrate liberty in a country where not everyone has the freedom just to breathe?
“The campaign’s message is very simple yet profound: we all have a role to play in dismantling systemic racism in this country,” said Lisa Sherman, president and CEO of the Ad Council. “It’s time for Americans to listen, learn and act. While we know these long-simmering problems are nothing new, we want to leverage this moment in time, a national reckoning with race, and inspire change.”
