Created by BETC Havas, this affecting short film evolved from the union of Brazil’s biggest rap and trap recording companies, KondZilla and MainStreet Records, who came together to form the #salveafavela project, which calls for reflection on racial profiling.

Directed by Rafael Damy and Gabriel Pinheiro through Santeria, the cinematic, seven-minute video paints a harrowing picture of the issue of racially targeted police attacks on people of colour in the working-class communities of Rio de Janeiro, Sao Paulo, and Minas Gerais.

Featuring an appearance from actor Andre Ramiro, the story is inspired by the real experiences of those who have been mistaken for criminals carrying firearms by the police, when, in fact, they are carrying harmless objects such as umbrellas, tools, cell phones, and books.

The project aims to show unity with the victims of these attacks and their families, whilst calling on society to hear these peripheral communities’ cries for help.
