The last time a naughty-but-nice food brand treated us to an uninterrupted shot of a musician lost in their playing, it was a little more animalistic in nature, but what KFC's latest spot lacks in simian power, it makes up for in unusual sincerity.
Slowing the pace down somewhat for a nation hepped up with World Cup fever, Surrender to Tender from Mother uses the dulcet tones of musician Frank Watkinson, whose online videos have quietly moved millions, to deliver a gentle rendition of The Cranberries’ Linger, seemingly right to the feels.
Created as part of KFC's wider global brand refresh, which will be rolled out across packaging, advertising and restaurant environments, this deliciously lit and textured spot, shot on film by Iconoclast's Jonathan Alric, provides another delightfully curious turn for a brand that seems to endlessly surprise.
