To raise awareness of the experiences of displaced people worldwide, Australia for UNHCR (The UN Refugee Agency) commissioned BMF to create a beautiful and haunting film, directed by Kyra Bartley through FINCH.

Launched by Tik Tok star Nathan Evans, and inspired by interviews with five refugees, The Reluctant Sea Shanty is sung by three brave individuals who have embarked on dangerous, often deadly sea journeys to escape conflict and persecution in their homelands.

Cold, wet and terrified, with trembling voices, nonetheless they’re determined to “hold tight to hope ‘til they day they are free.” A call for compassion for our fellow humans, this is a tribute to the courage of all those willing to make that terrible journey and a reminder that “not all sailors want to go to sea.”
