Losheroesdehoy.com (Heroes of Today), a Spanish platform dedicated to stories of real people fighting for a world without intolerance, has launched a powerful new campaign highlighting the racism that continues to pervade the sporting sector.

Created by DDB Madrid and produced by Garlic, the short film, shot entirely in monochrome, recreates the hostile reception met by Jessie Owens, one of the 18 African-American athletes to compete in the 1936 Olympics in Berlin.

Against an ominous backdrop of swastikas, passers-by stop to stare and pass hateful comments; even children whisper racial slurs. But, as Owens enters the stadium, we learn that while the setting is historical, the racist taunts are, in fact, real modern-day tweets. A powerful reminder that however far we think we've come, discrimination is far from being confined to the history books.
