The film fuses the look of music videos from the early 2000’s - Papa Roach, System of a Down, Foo Fighters - with a cross-section of references from science fiction - Dune, Tron, Blade Runner, Star Wars - to create a dizzying, and at times surreal, mash up of styles and tropes. The framing device of a telepathic girl re-experiencing the concert millennia later is a take on the album art, which features her and her robot friend M-8. In the video this is R-8, a later model.
Much of the interactive elements were built on set, including the stage, stairs and walkways. This allowed the band, the stunt actors and dancers to have a real environment to perform in. In post production, the warehouse and the crowd were expanded to create a much greater sense of scale.
