Guusje van Deuren, producer of acclaimed films such as I Don’t Wanna Dance and the winner of a Golden Calf (the Dutch Oscars) for best screenplay De Libi, is joining Amsterdam production house HALAL. In her new role as Head of Scripted, she will oversee the development and production of fiction films and series, expanding the existing scripted team.

Gijs Kerbosch, Executive Producer and Founding Partner of HALAL: “I am happy and excited that Guusje is joining us in a leadership position. I'm looking forward to the collaboration because we can strengthen each other tremendously. Guusje is not only one of the best and most creative producers I know, but she is also a fantastic person. With Guusje at the head of HALAL Scripted, I am sure we will make beautiful films and series for a broad audience that will cross borders. This step is the first of many that fit HALAL's national and international ambitions."

Guusje van Deuren, Head of Scripted HALAL: At HALAL, the projects I work on will receive the fuel and time they need to grow. I want to work with ambitious creators who can identify stories that are genuinely worth making and seeing. Maybe because they are reaching and thinking further, connecting us in the eternal search for what it means to be a human being, or because they shed a different light on life and create new shadows. After doing smaller jobs for a long time, I can say I'm very proud of the two feature films and short pieces I've created with the Rogues. Now, it's time to join a larger team and give the ideas out there a chance to reach their full potential. I've found that team at HALAL, and I know we are only at the beginning of an extraordinary adventure together.”

Upcoming scripted from projects by HALAL include Kerstmens, written by Lotte Tabbers, Isis Cabolet, and directed by Michael Middelkoop. That Afternoon, written and directed by Nafiss Nia. Coproduction La Hija De Todos Las Rabias to premiere in Toronto and San Sebastián, written and directed by Laura Baumeister. Angels, written by Jaap Peter Enderle and directed by Emma Westenberg.
