Kicking off with a domestic skit that wonderfully introduces both setting and off-kilter tone, Ebeneza Blanche's promo for Little Simz's Point & Kill is an original treat.

With a goal of celebrating African culture (the title itself referring to a popular Nigerian catfish pepper soup), the SMUGGLER director's film sees him shooting in the region for the first time, as well as bringing artist Little Simz's first visit back to Lagos since her childhood.

Taking in the independent journeys of both Simz and collaborator Obongjayar, and throwing some neatly constructed tableaux into the mix, the film is a compelling, fascinating watch with an absorbing Cristo Rey-referencing image at its climax.

"Working with Little Simz was very organic, " comments Blanche. "From how we connected to shooting on set, it was all good vibes. We both really wanted to explore Nigerian culture for this visual. It was also amazing to have her mother in the video throwing money like a boss lady. Obongjayar also had great ideas which added an edge to the visual.

"With the recent brutality on innocent civilians in Nigeria, I wanted to address this by positioning Little Simz as a strong, powerful and modest lady, whereas Obongjayor would be seen in his own element.

"Sometimes I am a bit sceptical about shooting in countries that I have never visited, but this turned out great. Dawa did an amazing job on bringing the best crew together and Luca from SMUGGLER of course made sure we had a smooth shoot."
