British artist Declan McKenna's new music video is a dream come true as he inhabits two roles in this fast-paced, match-cutting masterclass.
Opening on the suave, quiff-sporting, leather jacket-wearing version of the singer as he impresses in a nightclub, we soon find out that we're actually in dreamland as the 'real' McKenna is fast asleep in bed.
Directed by Finn Keenan through Riff Raff Films, and shot in Keenan's hometown of Cavan, Ireland, the promo is a humorous and frenetic five minutes of fun.
“The idea of match-cutting between someone sleepwalking and the dream they are having had been knocking around my head for a while, but there was never the right song or the right artist," says Keenan. "And then Declan McKenna came along! To be honest, I was surprised at first that he was up for doing such a ridiculous idea. The whole thing relied on him fully committing to both roles. The sillier he looked sleepwalking, the funnier it’d be cutting back and forth between the slick version of him. And by god, did he commit! We shot it over two days back in Ireland, in my hometown of Cavan. It was frantic and chaotic but there was an amazing vibe on set. The amount of people that came to help out was just incredible. I can’t thank everyone enough!”
