During World War Two, the British government launched a propaganda campaign called Careless Talk Costs Lives that discouraged blathering about the war effort in case hush-hush info was leaked.
While the battle against coronavirus feels like a war, in these anxious, unprecedented times a spot of loose talk could actually save lives; if people get dangerously isolated, or even at risk from being bored to death...
The campaign Apart. But Never Alone was created by Uncommon and launched this weekend by Ant and Dec at the end of their ratings-smashing show Saturday Night Takeaway. The chirpy duo made a plea for people to connect with isolated people, via phone or by sharing messages of love and support across social media using the hashtag #BritainGetTalking and tagging @itv.

Celebrities, such as Davina McCall, Lisa Riley and Gordon Ramsay (who luckily kept his fruity language on lockdown) have got involved, joining members of the public in sharing encouraging comms that will be broadcast on ITV each day in an effort to keep spirits high.
Britain Get Talking launched in October 2019 as part of ITV’s five-year project to encourage 10 million people to improve their mental or physical health. Uncommon created a range of innovative activations for the campaign – including this award-winning, near silent spot urging viewers to not watch ads during ad breaks but go and chat to a partner/kid/housemate during the ad break instead… superbly risky.
