How do you do, fellow kids?"
If your understanding of teen culture is about as refined as Steve Buschemi in a baseball cap, then you might be tickled by the honesty in this funny spot from BBDO Bangkok.
Running with the truism that no one can really nail youth culture, Clean & Clear and agency admitted defeat and made a film that draws on the mistakes often made whilst attempting to talk down to the kids: This commercial doesn't understand you at all.
Humorously directed by Salmon House director Thanachart Siripatrachai, a production company known for its sublimely surreal executions, the spot hits all of the right marks and, in our personal most LOL-worthy moment, reveals the brand proposition in a manner that is both entirely earnest and extremely funny.
“Let’s not pretend that we understand this new generation of kids and admit that we don’t, by making an ad that doesn’t understand them at all," says Thasorn Boonyanate, Chief Creative Officer at BBDO Bangkok. "Thai teenagers love brands that speak sincerely to them, who aren't afraid to make fun of themselves.”
