The idea for the film, directed by Geoff Castillo and Carmelo Varela of Arts and Letters and Easy Mondays respectively, came about as the Latino community at the agency considered how they would celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month.

The concept evolved from the common truth they discovered that they shared: that being fully and proudly Latin-American is complex, and the tug of war between assimilation and embracing your heritage is constant.

América Has an Accent aims to empower and educate, celebrating the cultures, contributions and stories of Latinos in the US by showing real people and communities from past to present.

It ignites a strong feeling of pride and passion, exploring the concept of being a ‘real American’ as being inclusive of your country of origin, skin colour, cultural traditions and what language you speak.

The campaign promotes this belief through a beautifully diverse visual celebration of all things Latin-American. The film is led by a spoken word voiceover and features filmed portraits from Miami, Los Angeles, and New York City that capture the vibrancy, energy, and contributions of these communities.
