The newest music video for Arlo Parks shows off a cinematographic sensibility with a rich sense of texture and emotion.
A young girl is brought into a home for teenagers, where she slowly learns to adjust to a new life. As she moves in and out of the rooms, hallways, and even the beachside town where the home is set, she’s joined by another young woman, and the two become friends. It’s a soft, kind look at platonic intimacy, beautifully colored, and completely unrushed.
Hope was directed by Molly Burdett at Spindle. The texture throughout is nostalgic, muted and full of pastel fades, helped along by color grade from Cheat’s Tim Smith. Hope is soft, sweet, and strangely literary, like an old photograph that you don’t remember taking.
