Directed by Amar Chebib through Luminus Films, The Runner follows the inspirational story of 20-year-old long distance runner Darius Sam.
In an attempt to raise awareness of the mental health and addiction problems in his community, Sam took on the gruelling challenge of running 100 miles, non-stop, with limited experience, amidst sub-zero December temperatures.
The film looks back on Sam's past struggles with suicidal depression and the hardships his family and community have endured, focussing on the power of mental fortitude to overcome physical pain and self-doubt.
Chebib’s empathy for Sam is evident in each frame as we follow him, through every step of his arduous 100-mile feat of endurance, amid the cascading landscapes of the mountainous Nicola Valley.
