Sometimes nothing beats the glory of a good ad, a big idea in a small form, brilliantly executed and served up as a short, sharp morsel of marketing excellence.

Here Droga5 NY and Ringan Ledwidge, through Rattling Stick, have collaborated on a duo of slickly made, charm-packed spots for the insurance giant Allstate.

In Smooth, the idea that smooth driving pays off and will bring down your car insurance premiums is depicted by the story of an absent-minded motorist prone to leaving stuff on the roof of his car. Delightfully random objects – fluffy slippers, a blancmange, a goldfish, a cup of tea – all get a ride without spillages or misadventure, to the peerless strains of Edith Piaf’s Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien

Another perfectly chosen track, Bill Withers' Lovely Day, accompanies Roll Up, the story of a woman who – literally – rolls out of bed and embarks on a trip through her locale snugly rolled up in her duvet, then carpet, curtains and welcome mat. As she travels she gleefully picks up laundry, tablecloths, a garden hose and a bunch of flowers. Just as we begin to question how her morning jaunt might affect her insurance the V.O. proclaims, ‘"this is the feeling of protection" and bosh! There you have it – emotion, execution and story, all rolled up into a perfect little ad.

What gives both spots extra charm are the reactions of onlookers, while ‘smooth’ driver incurs a few bewildered glances and comedy half waves, some of the rotating lady’s neighbours are totally accepting of her morning jaunt, which just adds to the whimsy.
