Spanning more than 30 countries, A Social Distance was directed by Ivan Cash and Jacob Jonas and features intimate video diaries made by a variety of individuals – from a 93-year old Malayan grandmother to a 19-year old Slovenian man.
All express their various feelings – detachment, isolation, anxiety – and display what’s getting them through the days, from packed fridges to patio dances and views through narrow windows.
Ultimately, you’ve gotta have a cold, hard heart not to well up a smidge as they share final messages of compassion and hope – and reveal how, across the planet, we are all united by our humanity.
The heartstrings are definitely being played with great dexterity by the film’s gorgeous music – an original score composed by Steven Hackman and remotely performed by musicians from around the world.
