Using mouth-wateringly lush imagery, full of opulent colour and texture, the promo for this year’s Dutch Eurovision offering, Birth of a New Age, boldly portrays black culture and resilience through a post-colonial lens.
Directed by Kevin Osepa and produced by Smarthouse, the film was shot in such notable Amsterdam historic landmarks as the Rijksmuseum.
The collaboration between singer Jeangu Macrooy, who was born and raised in the former Dutch colony Suriname, and Osepa, who hails from the Dutch Antilles, follows a journey from rebellion to liberation, culminating in Macrooy’s symbolic baptism.
