Acclaimed director Ridley Scott has helmed his first commercial following a 15-year break from ads with a swish spy caper that promotes the opening of Istanbul’s new airport for Turkish Airlines.
Produced by Scott’s RSA Films, in collaboration with Anomaly Amsterdam, the six-minute spot launched on Turkish Airlines’ YouTube channel, with a 30-second version aired during the Super Bowl on Sunday night, marking the first time a Turkish brand has advertised at the sporting event.
Deftly employing all the swanky spy thriller tropes – foxy female ‘agents’, swish hotels, first-class air travel – the film drips with glamour and showcases Istanbul’s treasures from the Çırağan Palace to the... new airport. The lead is played by Sylvia Hoeks, known for her role as Luv in Blade Runner 2049, the sequel to Scott’s 1982 classic.
